Fascinating. Not too often I'll post on FBall, but love the prospective, fan-frenzy coach speculation chat! :yelwink2:
When I read of the news this morning on the topic, I felt at least the Advocate had some logic to their reporting (as opposed to DDon). I don't necessarily have a ton to add to the speculation, but I would throw out there that sometimes fans get "caught up" in the production of this guy or the success of a certain guy, and the "name brand." I can tell you, it's not going to be Leach, Chow or Chryst (who btw just turned down the offer to come to Texas). I would bet on either an experienced veteran who maybe just hasn't gotten the right opportunity (but will fit in with Miles and Chavis) or a younger up and comer (i.e., eager), who knows Miles and/or believes in Miles philosophies. I think that we forget that if we draw on the Miles is the CEO analogy, he has to put together a staff that gets along and buys into the strategic vision. Certainly there was frustration there when Crowton wanted a multi-faceted wide open offense, and Miles wanted something else. I'm sure Miles would like to have some "offensive diversity" but at the same time, he'll want to have someone who buys into his vision. Frankly, it's also got to be, on the flipside, someone who is willing to come in and get overruled by Miles--that usually rules out the guy that is ego-centric and know all (i.e., Leach--unless he's desparate).
So, I'd say in order of importance the factors are:
1. Ties to LSU/Miles/Louisiana or Staff member.
2. Creative offensive mind, but flexible (and that means open to being secondary OC to Miles) enough to adhere to a run/ball control dominated offense.
3. Real QB coaching experience.
4. Right place right time. That is, someone who is available or otherwise obtainable b/c LSU is the right pay grade bump or higher prestige school.
I am not sure who that leads to, but I think that Advocate's got it right in some of the logical names (and not necessarily names that will make fans dance) like Logan, Monken, Chaney, maybe Nussmieir, or Kragthorpe b/c he's on the sidelines.
I wouldn't mind at all if we could score the TCU assistant or Missouri assistant, as up and comers, just not sure the tie to Miles or Louisiana is there.
