I don't smoke indoors. I smoke outside. And what's it going to do, knock 10 years off my life? Big deal, my wife is going to do that anyway.

Trust me on this: You will feel differently when you are 62.

Beyond true. Fact is everybody has a vice, smoking is just one of the worst and will eventually kill you. As stated by Swerved you have to really want and be committed in order to quit. I tried a multitude of times, even quiting for 6 yrs, but always failed as soon as something major stressful in my life happened. It took having a reason, greater than my own desire to live a long life to finally make me quit. Having kids will do that for you, if it hasn't then you are beyond selfish. It's only been a yr, but I know I'm done. I'm living for my children.

I quit a 2 and a half pack habit 24 years ago (my youngest was 3 months old). I eventually realized that the urges never go away. You just learn to ignore them.

There are life expectancy calculators online. I've been looking at some in order to do some serious retirement planning. Some ask just a few questions (AARP has me living to 85 as my dad and grandad did). Others ask a lot of them (one of them ended me at age 77, due to a less-healthy lifestyle than my raised-on-a-farm ascendants).

It is very interesting how certain factors greatly decrease you life expectancy and others only slightly.

My financial advisor wants me to project myself to age 100 because "anything could happen". I don't think I'll make 80 . . . but you never know. I suppose I will plan to make 90 just in case I screw up and live that long.

Honestly, If I have another 30 years, I plan to live large even if it costs me a few years, rather than living safe and responsibly just to gain a few extra years in the nursing home.

I took 2 of the tests. One was 84.1 and the other was 90.

Lung cancer killed my mom @ 69, both her parents (at 72 & 66), one of her brothers (at 64) and one of her sisters (at 65).

It is a horrible way to die for sure.

    I smoked 1/2 pack per day from 17 until I was 33.

I've been quit for 21 years, I guarantee I will never will go back to it.

BUT I will have a really good cigar about once every month or two.

If THAT gets me, oh well.
