There isn't any real need because it is pointless. Cam comes in with his NFL experience, does WONDERS with Mett, then they take Mett reincarnate and send him down the road. Was Ret not there last year? Did Cam not work with him at all? I mean he is after all the exact mold of what Cam wants no? So why throw him away to fuck around with "him" 2.0 it just doesn't make any damn sense which is exactly why it is straight out of the Miles handbook.

I figured you would still have a negative take on this (because Miles can do nothing right.) I don't think any of us know what happened to Rettig (except maybe bhelm, and he insinuates that Rettig wasn't getting the job done.)

    Ok, I'll referee LOL

    Here are the facts ---

#1 Cam/Les will play the best QB and design the play-calling around his and the OLine's strengths and weaknesses.
#2 Having only 2 scholarship QB's on the roster is NOT enough
#3 If we sign another QB in 2015 we'll be fine as long as BOTH Jennings and Harris remain on the roster
#4 The idea behind the mobile QB is he can elude pressure, occassionally tuck the ball and pick up a first down, and a few designed running plays.

If Rettig is a drop back passer, he may not look good in practice geared for a more mobile quarterback. Do you think Mett would have had a chance if he was competeing against Johnny Manziel at Texas A&M for the QB spot knowing what they run there on offense? No absolutely not, that's why Mett didnt get recruited by A&M and why he wouldnt have wasted his time trying there.

If Rettig was told that he would have a fair shot at starting during recruiting, then you make him run an offense that requires a QB with more foot speed than he has, that's a little unfair don't you think?

For me this is real simple ---

Our coaches get paid too much money, and winning is way too important to them, and everyone else involved for the coaches to ever do any other thing besides play the guy that gives us the best chance to win.

As much as it aggrevated me to watch JJ play those 3+ years. I knew there was a reason he was playing. It could have been his mobility, or that he looked REALLY good in practice. I don't know. Not here to debate those reasons.

But I do know, with 100% certainty, the coaches ALWAYS want to win. They want to win this one, and the next one.

    My last point ----

These guys transferring out is simple to me --- Rettig sees 2 guys ahead of him. One has 3 more years of eligibility, the other has 4 yrs. Maybe he's in the doghouse or maybe he wants a fresh start. Maybe these 2 guys ARE better, right now, than he is.

As adults we're faced with the same decisions.

Most guys would rather start for 2 yrs at ULM (just an example), than sit the bench their whole career at LSU.

Weeeeel, this didn't happen in 2011. A 9-0 quarterback got benched for a guy who embarrassed his team and got suspended.

    Agreed.

Big IF, I bet we sign two.

I think we all agree on mobile quarterbacks, nobody wants a statue back there. But dual-threat quarterbacks run a lot of designed plays with them as the runner. I think we all like to see this from time to time, as a change-up. But I think, in this league, we have recruited fine running backs and they need to get the ball most of the time. We have recruited fine receivers who need to see the ball an awful lot. The threat that we need from a quarterback is the ability to pass accurately, short and long, and have the mental agility and experience to read complex defenses and go through his progressions.

I suspect both of these young quarterbacks have strong arms. I suspect both will some have initial accuracy issues but will improve with time. But I suspect both have a long ways to go in reading SEC defenses, deciding quickly, and finding that "chemistry" with their top receivers. Nothing but a season in the trenches will tell us who has got the stuff. I fear this will be a long year with quarterback being the limiting factor on offense. That has gotten to be the book on LSU except for Mettenberger's senior year.

Jefferson "saved the day" against Alabama in the 9-6 game. I'm sure Les believed in his defense/special teams and felt JJ wouldn't turn the ball over. But I agree. I closed my eyes a lot while he was our QB.

Inexperience at QB is definately going to be our weak spot for this year's team. Expect most opponents to go back to loading the box to stop our power-running game.
