Years ago, I had one kid living at LSU and one working for LSU living in an apartment. So I figured that I could build them a garden home. Took a little less than 5 months to build, I was still working at the time. I cleared the lot, made my own house plans, formed and framed with a carpenter crew, did plumbing, heating and air, electrical, etc. They used it, then I sold it to some friends of mine, I cleared a little over $10k a month for my work, not counting what I made at my job.
2000 Mazda 626 with leather seats, everything working on the car except the tranny jumped out of gear (mostly going at higher speeds 50 and above). Took a chance on it, got it for 900 bucks, found out the diagnostic code was p708, researched the hell out of it, watched a 90 second youtube video of a russian dude explaining that the tranny needed no work most likely and that the solution was a replacement neutral safety switch (thus the jumping out of gear). Got the part for $20 shipped from Amazon and it took me all of 15 minutes to install (just had to loosen and raise the air filter housing), and voila, got a NADA valued $2500-$3000 car for $900. I thought these were good deals that were available like a good beer buzz in the morning along with a biscuit, but I have one that goes alone with the car and the house. We were given a 6 month old AKC Silver Lab because she was "too rambunctious". Working her as a bird dog for next year's season!
