You miss the point completely. Yes Obama is going to jam a nomination down congress's throat and use that to push democrats to the polls if the republicans stonewall it. Yes the court is better off with a balance here as I said in my very first post in this thread. I want an exact replica of Scalia on the court so John Roberts, who is the best justice on the court, will still cast the deciding vote on most issues. No, it's not "fair" that O gets to nominate a judge that will swing the court. But the thing is, none of that matters. That is the law and that's how justices are chosen. There is no precedent to delay for almost a year a supreme court nomination. There is no provision in the constitution that says the president can't make a nomination if it's an election year. You and others are just making this up and grasping at straws about how the people need to be able to vote on this as if the people didn't vote on every single person who will make the decision about the next nominee. And this is coming from someone who knows how bad it will be if he nominates a kagan or sotomayor again.
It will be interesting to see how this goes down for sure. We'll see how much "F-U" the ole pres has on this one.
Schumer in 2007: Don't confirm any Bush Supreme Court nominee http://www.washingtonexaminer.com/s...ny-bush-supreme-court-nominee/article/2583283 pot=kettle. we all should be sick of them all...
You didn't read the article, did you. If you had you would understand it wasn't "my point" but it is well understood point. Not to mention that the article was logical to the nit. The writer provided in great detail how this could play out for both sides including the possibility that a year-long delay could occur with minimal damage. And of course he's right that the one current republican running for office who is eminently qualified to run this discussion is Cruz. It's a game....both sides are playing and to me it's scary because it has so much importance for the future of my kids.
No surprise they would say the same stuff of course it's worth noting that they never acted on these words.
Don't leave out the best part....Schumer's comments yesterday. "On Sunday, Schumer ripped Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell as an “obstructionist” for vowing to block any Obama nominee to replace Scalia on the high court from receiving a Senate confirmation vote. “When you go right off the bat and say, ‘I don’t care who he nominates, I am going to oppose him,’ that’s not going to fly,” Schumer said on ABC’s “This Week.” President Bush never got the opportunity to appoint another Justice after Schumer spoke in 2007, " Funny how time and position change one's own prejudices.
no one has both nominated and confirmed in the lame duck year of a president Kennedy was nominated in november of 87 and confirmed in the lame duck year of 88 (february)
