Too bad it was a Division I list or the Scottsdale Community College Fightin' Artichokes might have won it.
Technically, the school doesn't recognize the tree as their official mascot. They currently claim no mascot and Cardinal (in the singular) is a reference to the school's color. Brief history, vomitus or not. From 1891 to 1930, they didn't have a mascot but were commonly referenced as the Cardinal in the media. From 1930 to 1972, they were called the Indians. In 1972 after talks between Native American students and the administration, the student senate voted 18-4 to dump the name. The student body voted 1755 to 1298 in favor of re-instating Indians. 3 years later in a second vote, students went 885 to 1915 against the name Indians. A group of 225 athletes on campus made one last unsuccessful attempt to become the "Griffins" but it just didn't catch on and so today they are still the Cardinal. The tree represents El Palo Alto, a large redwood which still stands and is the logo for the city of Palo Alto. On a side note, trees are pretty scary to rival kal since it seems a small group of trees is one thing keeping kal from beginning their stadium rennovation. Last I heard, there are still some tree huggers left in bezerkeley.
good call mean machine on the harvard mascot resembling freddy kruger, What with the burnt looking face the black cap, and that mean looking scowl it all but sums him up. That guy used to scare me pretty good when I was a young kid, probably one of the better horror movies back in the day before they started over doing them and making them pretty much laughable
Umm, Delta State is the Fightin Okra. Officially, they're the Statesmen, but I am friends with some grads from there that are doing grad @ LSU and they both say that they are the Okra. Looks kinda like my Master Chief avatar. Personally, Griffins are a mighty cool mascot. If we weren't the tigers, what's more bad-ace than a giant half cat eagle thing?
