Not all the ballots have been updated, so you can’t tell who voted LSU No. 1 yet - LINK Guilbeau voted LSU No. 6. At least he put us in his top 10! Shockingly enough he didn’t have St. Nick in his top 25 - LINK
That's good, I guess....But you won't have a whole lot to cheer about on Sept 2nd. Arky plays Troy State on Sept. 1.
Mind if I ask why? I don't think they are playing that day. Probably also in part that they return 10 players on each side of the ball who started the majority of games at their positions. In addition, there are several other players on both offense and defense with extensive starting experience. A total of 24 scholarship seniors populate the 2007 roster. This DL was largely responsible for putting together the nation's 12th rated run defense, but with the four returning seniors in the secondary can be deceiving too as they were the 83rd ranked pass defense.
I'm uncomfortable with the high ranking, mainly because of the fans' expectations and the negativity sure to follw when and if the team stumbles. There are a lot of questions offensively and getting through the 1st 5 games unscathed is going to be difficult. One thing about Les, though. Once his team hits it's stride, it's "Katy bar the door".
VT on game two is the kicker. If we had three cupcakes to open with, it would give the new QB and offense time to gel. If we beat a top-10 team that early it would jump-start the season and the Tigers could roll. If they stumble against VT, . . . well, an early loss is better than a late one. But the #2 ranking is perfect, especially if it translates into a BCS #2 in a few weeks. If LSU does manage to go undefeated, they will remain in the top-2 and a BCS berth is guaranteed, with no Auburn-type screwing. if LSU takes a loss along the line, it is better to drop from a higher spot.
