How important is this season's record for recruiting?

I'm not sure if this goes in the recruiting, so if it does, I apologize ahead of time to the mods.

With recruiting going so strong early, how important is having a strong season to keeping the recruits we've got and landing the ones who are leaning our way?

what I mean is, would an 8-5 season cost us in recruitng.

8-5 wouldn't be good at all for recruiting, especially if some of the other teams in our conference/ region have great seasons.

10 wins should keep us on track.....The allure of Tiger Stadium, playing for LSU, 2 BCS Titles, and our facilities are tough to negative-recruit.

8-5 would not throw off our recruiting. We're set to close with most "lock" players, and I think recruits would understand that this is an exception to the rule & basically only happened because Miles had the balls to kick RP off the team.

So I have no concern about it affecting this class. However, I think it could affect the next class.

One sub par season probably won't affect recruiting, two probably would.

I think it depends on how subpar, and how strong the Gulf Coast prospects are.

An 8-5 season of tough losses, hard fought, where the Tigers are in most games, has minimal impact. An 8-5 season where the team loses big to SEC foes, and maybe a loss to an OOC opponent we shouldn't lose to, would start a negative recruiting trend possibly.

I say possibly because if that year happens to also be a loaded year for LA and east Texas talent, perhaps it STILL probably isn't catastrophic. Particularly if the team in question has a lot of starters returning and the coaching staff will stay intact.

Lots of variables to your question. Bottom line: it depends...

I think to much sucess can hurt recruiting as alot of kids now days want to start right away. But on the other hand if you are sending alot of kids to the NFL then they realize that by waiting their turn can benefit them in the long run. Returning players at your position can help or hurt ie. with LSU stable of tail backs it could be hard to recruit one right now but in a few years they will all be gone.

This is where strong in-state recruiting comes in handy. These guys are typically willing to wait their turn more-so than out of state guys.

I know La. has great high school football but as far as population does that ever seem to hurt LSU when recruiting instate? Here in Ohio I think we are 7 or 8 in population.

Sure it hurts some time with the depth in LA but when LSU targets just a top 5-10 guys from in state it is not that big of a deal. Hurts the smaller schools and states that come recruit in LA. LA is the top or very close to the top per capita for players from the state going to the NFL.

It does hurt at times. LSU has always done well recruiting east Tx, as far west as Houston and Dallas. Houston in 2.5 hours drive to Austin, 5 hours to Baton Rouge, which is not a big deal when picking a destination for a 4 year program. The Miss. schools have not been nationally prominent for quite a while, and LSU and Bama fight it out for the top 6 kids. We pick up a couple from Ga., used to get 2 from Bama but that didn't happen the last 2 years, and we usually pick up 2 or 3 from Fla. I like to see LSU close to 10 from La. per year.
