Eventhough I would prefer a larger conference team, I do not think this is a bad pick-up. Wyoming has been a bowl team for the past few years and has a respectable program (recently) for a mid-major. I hope they keep it up for 4 years so they will be on the same level or better when we play them.

Everyone laughed big time when they beat Ole Miss. But they are pretty good. May not be when you play them, but if they keep on improving, I would not take them lightly.

The first time we played them was in the '68 Sugar Bowl, I believe. They were the nations only unbeaten team and had a great passing game. They took it to us in the first half, completely dominating the game to go up by 13-0. We came back in the second half behind the running of Glenn Smith, NO native and eventually won 19-13. On the last play of the game, a Wyoming receiver got open and was going in for a td when Barton Frye ran him down and tackled him on the 2 yd. line to end the game. LSU was the only SEC team to win it's bowl game that year. Bama, OM, Tenn. AU, Fla. and Ga. all got beat.

Thanks for the memories. I forgot most of what you said, just remember Bunny, as we called him growing up and at Holy Cross, having a great second half and being MVP. Still am sad he died so early.

That was a great second ahlf comeback. As I remember, he said he thought he could never go home again if LSU lost that game and was determined not to.

Maybe teams like Houston and Arky State are tired of getting kicked in the butt by LSU, only to watch their already disappointing recruiting efforts suffer even more because of it, so they decided to take a little break???

Every major program needs at least one "tune-up" game (sorry mid-major's...don't mean to be offensive--but it is what it is) and it never hurts to bring LSU sports news to the front page of the sports section--even in little western mountain towns like Laramie, WY....Never know when there might be one of those corn-fed O-linemen with a lumber jack for a father, that wants to play major college ball but isn't interested in going to Nebraska or Colorado... :)

Him and Butch Duhe, another HC guy.

At least Glenn Smith had a chance to play...
