i know and i agree with your assessment of the kid overall. I think you know where Im coming from. Hell, there are a lot of great backs on teams that get no publicity every weekend cuz they play on no name teams. Its just rather funny to see him annointed the next Hershel Payton Sanders Brown.
I saw him play against Texas and was impressed. I'd like to see how good he can be in 3 years. I understand a lot of his success is based on the OK offensive line, which seems to be better than last's season, however he really ran well in the open field and when knocking over defenders. Can he do it all season? Who knows. That is the true test of for great running backs. Being able to produce at that level all season, and then for a few seasons.
Have you watched USC's defense against the run in 2003 and 2004, really pretty damn good, and don't give me the line about theeir opponents don't run. The PAC 10 is not as soft as we make it out to be just like the SEC has better passing games than the west coast fans think we do. USC is stout vs the run. Petterson is very good, but as Tirk says, let him do it for a while before giving him any Heisman's. There is a person in the world who swa him in college that didn't think he was the real deal and he has had a great start to his college career. If he continues on this pace I'll give him his due no matter who they play.
Peterson is without one of the best RB's in the country, IMO. Wow, his burst of speed and ability to just run right through people amazed me.
Peterson is a great back behind a good OL with a Heisman hyped White taking pressure off him and giving him ample running room. Remember, LSU recruited this kid and had a good chance to land him ... But He was afraid to come here because he saw what happened to Barrington Edwards and other good backs not getting playing time. He was afraid he'd get splinters at LSU and knew he'd beat out Kejuan Jones. End of that story. You'll see how good he is this year compared to next year ... when he has to carry all of the load ... and defenses key on him every play Seems to me we had a world beater RB somewhere round here last December and this January ... wonder what ever happened to him
I can name a few good backs outside conferences....dunno 'bout their age. Wali Lundy, UVA D'Angelo Williams, Memphis Marty Johnson, Utah (watched the NM game) Lawrence Maroney, Marion Barber III Minnesota (these two were both in the heisman races of ncaa 2005) Let's be real honest now ....most games shown in Louisiana of outside the SEC games are usually of media darlings or noname Thurs/Friday night games.
