Tired of hearing about the 2004 MNC controversy, check this one out. http://cbs.sportsline.com/collegefootball/story/8642752
You annoyed by the "threepeat" talk right now, Red, wait until you get a solid month's worth of it in the weeks preceding an LSU-USC Rose Bowl.
M is for "mythical." It's just me I guess but I say any NC not settled on the field in a playoff is mythical (determined by often uneducated voters, computers, etc.) and frequently followed by controversy. Unfortunately Div. 1A college FB is the only major sport that doesn't have a playoff.
Alabama fans are really whining about this one. They were #3 in the polls. If 1 and 2 play to a 10-10 tie how can you claim #3 it deserves to be #1 in an era before the BCS and when the UPI poll crowned a champ before the Bowl Games? You can also argue about the 3-peat since Alabama split the 1965 title with MSU which won the UPI title. The real crime in this was ND playing for a tie. If #2 plays #1 to a tie when #1 does NOT try to win then #2 should be considered the "winner". If I had a vote back then I would have voted 1. MSU, 2. Alabama, 3. ND.
Could not disagree more Fighting Tiger A "playoff" would destroy what makes college football great. Right now every game means something. How can you honestly say that with a straight face? Miami beats FSU head to head and they both finish 10 - 1. Who plays Oklahoma for the MNC? Miami, nope FSU. FSU gets absolutely drilled by NCState (a 500 team) in the 2nd or 3rd game of the year. Ohio State gets beat on a last second TD by Michigan State (a 500 team) in the next to last game of the year. They both finish 10-1. Who gets to play Tennessee for the MNC? Ohio State. Nope, FSU. The loss did not matter - the timing did. Nebraska does not even win its division, and gets to play Miami. Oklahoma does not win its conference and plays LSU.
why would it destroy bowl games? Why not make the independence bowl part of the first round and so forth down the line.
