I forgot that Piazza had been traded to the Padres until I saw him hit...a home run. I kinda like not paying attention to the off-season trades. It makes for some surprises in the spring.

While the USA team was showing up after a several month vacation, most of the foreign players had spent their time playing winter ball. Being in mid-season form makes a huge difference.
Actually, most of the South American countries and some Asian leagues are actually about a month and a half into their regular season by now. They actaully suspended their seasons for the classic.
