  5. I'm not sure I'd pick Tuscaloosa...in fact, I KNOW I wouldn't pick Tuscaloosa but I understand wanting to move from Hawaii. After a few weeks, it's boring as hell. It's an island. Limited space, limited activities, limited job opportunities. You either work in hospitality or you don't work.

    If I was looking for a place to retire, it might make the short list but still.....too far to go to get something "different". Still one of my favorite places to vacay though.

  7. Clearly I was exaggerating to make a point but in any given year, the military breakdown in Hawaii is; Army 21,700, Navy 14,600, Marines 7,300 and Air Force 5,200. Hawaiian population is roughly 1.5 million. Small potatoes. Military there are almost always temporary, not long term. And very few natives join the service. Really.
