What the hell is a live foal fee?

Stud fee, but in horses you only pay if the horse is born alive. A foal is a baby horse.

I'm sure the owners of the horse are well insured?

Yes, but let's say they have the horse insured for 2 mill. That's only 8 foals. A good stud can produce 50-100+ if there are enough buyers. Which there will be because his first ones will sell for $750k plus at yearling sales, and if they do good (win stakes races) then they will reach the million plus range for the colts and a little less for the phillys.

My two phillies have cost me a fortune. I am guessing somewhere in the $200,000 range so far!:hihi: And their mother isn't cheap either!!

LOL, I wish it were that easy. I took a friend Wednesday night. It was the first time he'd ever been. He picked 7 of 10 winners by betting on the horse that was drooling the most in the walk-by.

I went 5-5 using what I know, and actully lost money thanks to odds.

    So yeah, I know nothing.

You're right. Its allowed by the AQHA, but not the Jockey Club (who controls the thoroughbreds). Thanks for the correction.

This whole story about Barbaro makes me really sad.
I'm hoping he can pull through.

To some people a horse just isn't a horse.
I don't understand how some people think like that.
Life is fragile for animals and humans alike.
    That statement just seamed insensitive.
