ok so theres this festival in norfolk, va... downtown by the waterfront..
Its a cajun festival, and as skeptical as I am, IT FREAKING RULED TONIGHT.
Tons of LSU fans who I spoke to when they walked up to me while I was wearing a LSU shirt. The food was actually decent... ok crawfish, the red beans and rice was excellent... and oh my.. abita joined the party... after 5 turbodogs and 4 purple haze's and all that food im spent.

It was good to see so many LSU fans though, we all sat together and listened to galactic play... cowboy mouth, benji davis, and john popper all play tomorrow, should be fun... but oh man, I Ate waaay too much food and drank too much beer, whoa... sooo full now... I felt like I was back home again.

and I'll do it all over again tomorrow.

I took a picture I thought was hilarious though, some might get it... its the whole "corn dog" thing... but its in purple and gold, and I just HAD to take a picture...

I'm always skeptical of anything called "Cajun" away from Cajunland - but so glad to hear that it was very close to the real deal. The Norfolk area has a lot of good festivals - and I'm sorry I can't be there. I'm in Northern Virginia this evening for a private winery event that Dave Matthews is performing at and (I'll believe this when I see it) Bill Clinton is supposed to attend. I'm just going for the free food and wine, of course :thumb: , but would really rather be out with the LSU fans in Norfolk. Laissez les bon temps roullez.

I'm not talking about THIS particular festival, but I hate how "other" people like to embrace our culture and food, but at a later time disprove us by saying that we're incestuous hicks.... hypocrites!

I feel ya on that one.

I get made fun of for wearing LSU stuff all year by VA tech fans, and then I show up wearing LSU gear to this festival... and people are like:

    "LSU! YEAH LSU RULES!"

I went to this festival when I was in the Navy 12 or 13 years ago and really had a good time showing the locals how to peel boiled crawfish and listening to Wayne Toups... I had as many as 10 to 15 people around me watching and learning how to eat crawfish.

It was a lot of fun and actually taught some cajun french catch phrases... that led to one of the locals taking my friends and I out on his yatch that afternoon... awesome day.

The food was authentic as the people boiling the crawfish were from Breaux Bridge and one of the other cooks was from Lafayette.

met some people tonight from thibideaux, lake charles,gonzales...

saw my friends, the benji davis project, play... caught up with my friend jonathan lawhun, the guitarist, who I scared the CRAP out of when I suprised him! haha... John popper played, and it was a stoners dream you could say...

very funky though... ate some jambalaya, etoufee, and a butt ton of crawfish and fish a LOT of abita beer... I had to teach a couple people how to eat crawfish, cause they were doing it all wrong... eating the POOP and what not...
