Didn't realize that and it also means we aren't the only ones with two- in fact, Florida State has three and Miami has five. We're the only ones with two during the BCS era but not the only ones with two. :(
  2. We are the only one who won two on the field. The others were just poll winners.

  3. At the bottom of your link it says Miami has 3 and FSU has 2.

  4. I'm sorry, but what? Only ones to have won it on the field? A lot of those games featured #1 vs #2.
  5. Not a lot, actually, bowl tie-ins often prevented such a matchup before the BCS. They just weren't championship games, the results of other bowl games was still figured into it. And the final poll determined the #1 team, not winning a bowl game.
  6. you're wrong... again...

    I can think of 2-3 that were No. 1 v. No. 2.

The old system was pathetic. Hence the need for a BCS, so No. 1 could play No. 2 every year.

  7. Don't forget this BCS Trophy/LSU trivia tidbit:

    http://coachestrophy.com/NewSite/history.htm

From what I've read elsewhere, Cholly Mac was very involved with the process of developing the trophy. He had to veto the first trophy, at considerable expense, because it looked too much like a rugby ball. When the necessary changes were made and the finished product was delivered, Coach Mac reportedly said that he hoped that a coach at LSU would one day claim the trophy for his beloved Tigers!

  8. Thanks for catching that, I musta scrolled to fast. :thumb:

At least is does pit the #1 and #2 teams against one another- if they could more accurately id the two "Best" teams as #1 & #2.
  9. lsutiga is correct that Miami has 5 NC's but the first was in 1983 before the trophy, but since 1986 when the trophy was introduced they have 4 NC's but in 1991 they went undefeated shutting out Nebraska in the Orange bowl winning the AP NC but not the coaches who had Washington as their #1. So yes Miami has three AFCA throphies.

I know schools claim NC's when the decisions were split before the BCS, but does USC claim '03?
