Rankings are based mostly off the votes of somewhat ignorant human voters. In a perfect world, rankings would be meaningless and the playoff pool would be determined based off all major conference winners, with some at large playoff bids from winners of the smaller conferences. This would be a good basis for selecting a playoff pool of teams at least...

I would have no problem with some of those matchups you listed because they involve conference champions. In the NFL, division winners go to the playoffs.. does not matter what their record is.. In high school, same thing.. College basketball, conference tourney winners go no matter their records... baseball too.. the NBA as well... oh and hockey too.. yeah and women's basketball... oh even the wnba...

I like a 32 team playoff that incorporates Bowls so to not take away the history of the game.

Currently there are 28 Bowl Games, they could use all 28 bowls as the first 3 rounds of the playoffs. This would also give a little more meaning to the bottom tiered bowl games.

The final three games could be named something bowls to keep with the program and of course we wouldn't just call the last one the National Championship game.

To do this they would have to eliminate the 12th game, no big deal, and probably start the season two weeks earlier.

Only argument against this is that it would cut into the holiday break, but what athlete would give up his vacation for a chance to win a true national championship?

Plus this system would probably double advertising and television revenue since even the lowest bowl game would have great meaning now.

I agree with some of your point. Just because everyone else is doing it doesn't make it right. The Padres making the MLB playoffs with a losing record while teams with a winning record were kept out was absurd. Just like if a D1 team lost all of its OOC games, and went 4-4 in conference, wins their division, and CCG, they would be 5-7. They should not be awarded a free pass into the post season simply because their entire division or conference can't manage to fininsh above.500

Why not have an 8 team playoff utilizing 7 major bowls? You can eliminate the 12th game and conference championships so it wont cut into the break. And you use an NCAA selection committee like basketball. The first rd. would involve, for example cotton, capital one, peach and fiesta. Then the next rd would involve 2 of the 4 BCS bowls which would rotate as the site of the national championship game in the number one slot. the one bcs bowl in the first rd would also be part of this rotation. This would eliminate all of the meaningless bowls (poinsettia bowl, champssports.com bowl, etc.) and still utilize the BCS power bowls. I think it would add more meaning to the postseason and it would do something that we all wanna see...CROWN A NATIONAL CHAMPION ON THE FIELD, NOT IN A COMPUTER OR HUMAN OPINION. There is still going to be some controversy over who gets the #8 spots but it ensures the top 5 teams all get in. There is no such thing as a perfect system, good teams are always left out of the Basketball NCAA tournament, but this system would be leaps and bounds better than the current one IMO.

No! lets have all teams with a winning record vie for a 64 team bracket. This way we do not leave anyone out. No wait - even better - lets use a 128 team bracket. This would give the top few teams a bye in the first round. We could start right after T-day and go on into the next year. That way no one is left out and everyone has a shot at the title.
OK. Its a deal. We'll start in '06. Now think of the television revs.

    Use BCS-like formula.

8 team playoff. More teams = too long and presidents are unhappy.

Allow traditional bowls as they are today; playoff shouldn't affect the secondary bowls.

Possibly make concessions for minor conferences (ie. top 16 teams from minor conferences get up to 2 bids, no more, leaving 6 for top 6 bcs teams). Maybe also consider a play-in game for minor conferences. This is the no-team left behind policy.

Possibly have conference tie ins to keep uncle moneybags happy.

    1st round = 4 games
    2nd round = 2 games
    3rd round = 3 games

1st round home game for higher ranked team.

2nd round at 2 bcs bowls.

3rd round, concession game home game for higher ranked team, top 2 teams left out of playoff play at 4th bcs bowl, championship game at bcs bowl.

    this is stupid.

a 16 team playoff would include every 1 loss team in the last decade. It is the only "fair" solution. NO conference tie ins.

Drop the Fiesta bowl as a "major" bowl.

first 2 rounds (16-8, 8-4) are played in the "regular" bowls
the final 4 teams play in 2 of the three: sugar, orange, rose
championship is at the remaining big three of sugar orange rose, and it rotates each year.

    easy
let the mexicans cry in az about fiesta, who cares
