1. Caught the tail end of segment on the Freddie Coleman show talking about Yogi Berra. Freddie had people calling to say who they thought were the biggest sports personalities and Characters.

Of course Shaw was mentioned but here are a few who weren't at least while I was listening.

    Baseball

Mark the Bird Fidrich - short career but would talk to the ball before each pitch.

    Basketball

    Darryl Dawkins
    Bill Walton - in college
    Dennis Rodman

    Football

    John Riggins
    Deon Sanders

    Golf

    Lee Trevino
    John Daly
  2. This list would be dominated by wrestlers, headed by either Rick Flare or The MachoMan Savage
  3. WOOOOOOOOOO
  4. How about the Babe. He was pretty fat. Daly for sure. Refrigerator Perry? He's nearly a cripple now.
  5. I've always been partial to Bob Uecker and Don Meredith as far as pro sports characters.

  9. Tony Stewart was pretty much of a character but the death of the midget car driver seems to have taken a lot out of him.

Dale Earnhardt and Darrell Waltrip. The oldtime NASCAR drivers were all characters but the newer breed of drivers are pretty much all corporate vanilla personalities. Dale Jr. would probably be a natural character if he didn't make so much money as a corporate shill.
  10. One of the greatest characters was the ole Diz, Dizzy Dean. I'll never forget jewels like 'he slud into 3rd'.
