Bowden and Paterno are in the same boat. I respect both coaches for what they've done in terms of W's but it's impressive to see 2 coaches do that at the same schools for so long.

I thought that last year's Orange bowl appearance at the end of 2-3 poor seasons, would have been enough for Paterno so that he would have retired on top. Now, I'm getting the feeling his legacy will be ruined somewhat by not knowing when to get out. Same thing with Bowden.

Well, Paterno has shown a willing to ditch his longtime coordinators (the OC) and demote his son for the better of the team. That is something Bobby Bowden isn't willing to do. The Big 10, top 2 teams aside, is in a real down year across the board. I have to wonder how much the coaching record is making both JoePa and Bowden staying on long past when they should leave. ( I agree last year would have been very good timing for JoePa to retire).

Speaking of "down years"...I'm not a fan of them, but when was the last time you saw Florida State AND Miami near the BOTTOM of their conference division standings???

USC, Florida State, Miami AND Nebraska lose to historically inferior teams? --All on the same day!

I sure hope so, imagine what what happen if Bowden left after this year....
Urban Meyer would suck up the Florida recruits like a vacumm cleaner- especially with the fall of the "U". Florida would be scary. JMO

I don't think either coach really cares about their legacy right now, they both got bigger things to worry about like winning. If JoePa did care, he woulda retired after last season but i don't see him as the kinda guy that will retire just because other people tell him to. He knows his time and you have to respect that, seeing as he built the Penn State program. He's been coaching at Penn State since 1950, so i think he has enough seniority to make that decision.

Speaking of which, you had a pretty darn impressive week on the Tigers' forum picks. 11-2- unreal. Good job! :thumb:
