I just listened to the last half hour of Songy's show...

From 1:30 until 1:54, there were exactly two phone calls from fans that made it on the air.

In between this "almost half hour", we did hear about the greens, tee boxes, sand traps, the fairways and the rough at Copper Mill...

We also heard about Sea Bass, talapia, but we found out unfortunately, that Buddy's sponsors are currently out of fried turkeys. But, thankfully, they do still have an anticipate making more tailgate trays.

These commercials took place live and on the air, and are not to be confused with the actual commerical breaks that Songy has programmed into his show.

At 1:27-1:32, Songy had an advertising break. After this, Songy immediately took an "on air advertisement informercial call". The last four minutes from 1:41-1:45, he took phone calls. Then, at 1:45, he took another infomercial, before taking two calls, and then knocking off the air at 1:54.

This means that during the last 33 minutes of his show, Songy took approximately 10 minutes to actually do what his advertisers pay him to do, which is to have a call in show.

66% of his show is advertising? Gimme a break!

Give us someone in Baton Rouge who can give sports talk radio a good name!

How Spongy makes it in this town is amazing to me. I use to listen to him but it got to where i couldnt stand it any more. He is the best monday morning QB ever. Ott is not to bad at times, Condon aint to bad till he starts rambling, which is most of the time. I can stomach John Fine (guess thats how he spells it???). Buddy Spongy makes me sick though.

    If you think he's bad...

...try listening to Jimmy Ott. Not only does he not know jack about sports (I've learned that when Ott makes a pick, take out a second mortgage and bet it on the opposing team), but all his show consists of is bantering around w/ his drinking buddies who call in. You know, a whole lot of "hey, didja see that blonde at the
end of the bar last night?". Hell, I don't need to listen to a talk show to get that...I can talk to MY OWN BUDDIES and get that. In fact, I've heard a rumor to the effect that when things get TOO slow on Ott's show, he pages Six-Pack to call in and liven things up.

Duh...Sewer Rat, Knucklehead, those are all "placed" callers who liven up the show...

Sports talk radio in this town is made up of guys who sell more advertising than The Moran Group, and some guy who's daddy was a Chinese Bandit and from New Orleans who has a sports talk radio show as a front for his real operation as a sports book...

  5. Sorry to disagree but I think Buddy's show is excellent. I do agree that the call-in advertising is annoying and long winded but he does get long winded with the callers too. I've learned a lot on his show, he has the best LSU football talk in the state (in my opinion.) Speaking of advertising too much though, look at WWL and WJBO, now thats WAY TOO MUCH.

Guzzlin is an icon in BTR when it comes to call in sports shows. He once made Richard Condon cry.
