We've done this before and most of the young guys pick players they have seen in the last five years. That is understandable, but an all-time team must include the stars of yesteryear, many of who were All-Americans and hall-of-famers. Jamarcus Russell, Trev Faulk, Matt Mauck, and Domanick Davis were genuine studs, but they just can't match the accomplishments of the men on this list.

    Red's perfect team, 3 deep:

QB -- Y.A. Tittle, Bert Jones, Tommy Hodson
RB -- Charles Alexander, Jimmy Taylor, Kevin Faulk
RB -- Billy Cannon, Dalton Hilliard, Steve Van Buren
WR -- Josh Reed, Wendell Davis, Michael Clayton
WR -- Ken Kavanaugh, Eric Martin, Andy Hamilton
OT -- Robert Dugas, Louis Williams, Ralph Norwood
OG -- Eric Andolsek, Tyler Lafauci, Mike Demarie
C -- Kevin Mawae, Nacho Albergamo, Moonie Winston
OG -- Alan Faneca, Bo Strange, Remi Prudhomme
OT -- Lance Smith, George Rice, Chuck Wiley
TE -- Gaynell Tinsley, David Lafleur, Brian Kinchen

DE -- A.J. Duhe, Karl Wilson, Ken Bordelon
DT -- Leonard Marshall, Chad Lavalais, Ronnie Estay
DT -- Glen Dorsey, Booger McFarland, Henry Thomas
DE -- Marcus Spears, Dan Alexander, Gabe Northern
OLB -- Michael Brooks, Lyman White, Eric Hill
ILB -- Mike Anderson, Warren Capone, Toby Caston
OLB -- Brady James, Lew Sibley, Albert Richardson
CB -- Tommy Casanova, Willie Teal, Greg Jackson
SS -- Jerry Stovall, Laron Landry, James Britt
FS -- Mike Williams, Eugene Daniel, Jeffrey Dale
CB -- Clinton Burell, Chris Williams, Marcus Quinn

K -- David Browndyke, Juan Betanzos, John Corbello
P -- Chad Kessler, Tommy Davis, Matt DeFrank

Red, I agree with your point and most of your team. But one question, why did you put Stovall on the Defensive side of the ball? I know he played defense in the pros but in college he...
had to fill Billy Cannon's shoes as a running back
was the runner up in the hesiman as a running back
and he was the #2 oveall pick.

Just curious on your logic here. Thanks for the list.

A FINE LIST, if I ever saw one! Kudos to Red!!!

I'll just quible a little. JaMarcus belongs on the team at QB, with Jones, the two best I ever saw at LSU. I never saw Tittle until he was a pro. I'd be willing to drop Hodson (hurts, cause he had so much heart!) or YA to put on JaMarcus. Things really get tight on a 3 deep.

I think Bowe won a spot on the team. Maybe have to drop Eric Martin.

I pretty much agree with the starters, you got my favorite 2 linebackers, Mike Anderson from the fine 1969 team and Michael Brooks from the 80's (I think, could go look it up).

    geauxgeauxhon blah blah blah

I can't really improve on this, except I might move Wendell Davis up to first team. I saw that man make catches that were humanly impossible. There was one sweet one against ND in Tiger Stadium that I still dream about.

Stovall played both ways in college. Halfback in those days was not only a running back but a defensive back, too. People often forget that Billy Cannon was a tremendous linebacker, he could have made the list at either position.

In the minor quible category, I'll agree with hon on this. Davis over Reed. It's arguable. Davis went on and had a better pro career with the Bears, though the Bears weren't much of a passing team.

I've seen both receivers beam on with the QB and catch 8 out of 12 balls on one drive to go in and win a game in the 4th quarter, when it seemed everyone had wised up that's what we were going to do. Very impressive players.

Here's an "in my living memory" list:

QB: Hodson (quicker developing and a longer presence than Russell)
    RB: Dalton Hilliard
    FB: Jacob Hester
    WR: Josh Reed
    WR: Dwayne Bowe
TE: Richard Dickson (I genuinely believe this)
    OL: Alan Faneca
    OL: Eric Andolsek
    OL: Kevin Mawae
    OL: Ralph Norwood
    OL: Hmm.. hard to decide
    DT: Glenn Dorsey
    DT: Booger McFarland
    DE: Marcus Spears
    DE: Gabe Northern
LB: Michael Brooks (dude was awesome)
    LB: Toby Caston
    LB: Brady James
    CB: Tory James

SS: Dude I can't remember who played back in the 80s and spent a good bit of time in the NFL with the Giants
    FS: laron Landry
