This is an article about how the WR are developing over Spring and 2 things caught my attention.

Byrd, who once clocked a 4.28 in the 40-yard dash, is the Tigers’ deep threat.

LaFell said Byrd’s speed is a key to the Tigers’ passing attack because opposing teams will have to double him, freeing up other receivers in the three- and four-wide packages.
And that’s fine with Byrd.

“The coaches want me to be the guy to stretch the field,” Byrd said with a smile. “They want me to bring defenders over and open up other guys.”

Byrd is also working hard off the field. He’s already added 10 pounds to his 6-foot-2 frame and now weighs 205 with the plan to add another five pounds of muscle before the fall.
He’ll also work on increasing his speed by joining the LSU track team when spring football ends April 5. Byrd said he’ll run the 100 meters and also compete on the Tigers’ 400-meter relay unit.

Looks like he is headed in that very direction.

Wow, I never knew he was that fast. On that touchdown against Bama, how he burnt the DB, I saw he had speed. But 4.2 speed.

His TD in the SECCG was also impressive. I think he's going to have a monster year in '08.

I hope he picks ups another half-step in his forty times. Now LSU just has to get a QB with an arm to chunk him da rock. I hope RP gets his act together and gets back on the reservation. A faster Byrd hauling in long bombs from RP is bad news for SEC secondaries. Land a Reuben Randle on top of all the talent we have now at WR in addition to what's redshirted and coming up will keep that offensive unit high scoring for a long time to come.

Deep threats with great hands and world class speed give DCs hearburn.
