The baseball draft is next week. Any insight on where he might get drafted ? Has he made any comments about baseball vs. football etc. I'll hang up and listen.

I heard awhile back that he wants 1st round money. The new rule states you can only be paid 1st round money if you are drafted in the 1st 2 rounds. He is projected anywhere from the 1st to 6th round. I am not sure if he has changed his stance since then but just like Mitchell last year he may drop a few rounds with his interest in playing football in college.

    Keeping my fingers crossed.

He has talked to several teams and apparently as of last week, has worked out with several also. His dad says if the $ is right, he will play baseball because it is his first love. Supposedly they are keeping the LSU coaches in the loop. I would imagine his option to play football has some MLB teams a bit nervous and hopefully it drops him in the draft. Guess we just need a prayer vigil.

Rumor is baseball first, football second, to the tune of 90-10. If he isn't drafted in the first 6 rounds where money is slotted, they can appeal to the commish for an exemption to overpay a player not taken in the first 6 rounds. Not sure how often the commish grants this exemption. I doubt there are too many teams willing to pay 1st round $ to a late rounder.

Second rumor is that he is not entering the draft as a pitcher, but as an everyday player, probably CF. What helps his draft stock here is that he hit around .500 this season.

Gotta pray to keep this kid in school, since he would impact both football and baseball. Deadline for the decision is August 15th, not the first day of classes.

There was a Tigerbait article today about this. The teams are also worried about his commitment to LSU.

Ooops...my mistake. I was looking at a baseball web site that had presented a mock draft as if it were the real results coming in. Again, my mistake.

However, I still don't like what I saw. The guy that runs the site is very good at what he does, and I'm worried that Jones will end up going early.

Baseball America has Jones as the 92nd rated prospect. I thought he would be higher than that but I guess they are also taking it into account that he has signed with LSU.

I posted in the recruiting forum other prospect rankings for our recruits and current players if anyone is interested.:thumb:
