You are correct about the rule, once they enter college, MLB will not take them for 3 years.

I'm sure he won't redshirt, as I recall a young freshman named Laron Landry making a very big impact in '03. It's not exactly like QB.

Could Chad Jones start this year?

Anyone else think he has a good shot of starting at some point during the year? I think as the year goes on he could take the starting job from Curtis Taylor.

No. Taylor is a grown ass man that has just been unfortunate to be behind one of the best ever, and Steltz was better than Daniels last year imo. Our safeties are set, and I think McCray is far ahead of Jones too... but he could very well play a good bit.

He is that good but Taylor is very underrated IMO. Taylor knows everything he needs to know and learned from the best, Laron, for 3 or 4 years. Taylor will be a pleasent surprise this year and since he is a senior will get most of the reps. Experience is key and both dont have it. The starting job will be his the following two years, if i had to guess.

No, but he will see significant playing time this year.

Since the 'Stros have a poorly trained monkey as the GM, there's almost no way he signs Jones.

As to the question, I'm with Philter. I don't see him starting, barring injuries, but he should get some PT.

At my wife's office it is very clear that it is up to the Astros at this point. He really wants to play baseball full-time. I am glad he and his father are being very clear about their price. Stros have yet to contact him and will offer him a few hours before the deadline. I dont think they will geve them the $800,000-1M he wants.
