No, the right call was made according to the rules. The correct call would've been to give SD the ball in both instances. There is a difference.

I understand that the refs hands were bound by the rules, but I've never liked the 'we can't give you your rightful fumble recovery because I accidentally blew my whistle so the play is dead' course of action. Teams are too good, especially in the NFL to be given multiple opportunities to win games. There's no reason why, after reviewing it and realizing his mistake that SD shouldn't have been given the ball.

If you played organized football I'm sure you recall the coaches telling you that when the whistle blows the play is over. That rule is effect from Pop Warner all the way to the NFL.

    Inadvertent whistles aren't reviewable.

Trim 15 seconds off the play clock for the last two weeks and San Diego are 2-0.

LT= no holes, can't buy one.
Sproles= freak off his leash. Just geaux's to show what a speedy cuttin lil freak like Holliday can do for an NFL team.

San Diego will be there. Norv is proven that a 1-5 team can play into the playoffs. I am sure they will find a way to play the last 10 seconds of the hard games. I expect they will take it all out on the Jets!

I realize that, but they should be.

I agree with you, but symantically I think you have it backwards. The "correct" call was made by the rules. It was not the "right" call, however.

Was it an inadvertent whistle or was it ruled a pass and the play blown dead? They are allowed to review "down by contact" now even though they blow those plays dead. I would assume they will probably take a hard look at changing this rule too.

Besides losing money on the game, my biggest gripe is that the ability to make the right call is available. Why not use it? So what if the ref accidentally blew it dead. Once the replay showed that was a mistake, give the ball to SD. No harm, no foul.

    Change the rule!

well in that instance it should have been overturned because the guy recovering the fumble wasnt affected by the whistle since he was falling on the ball as it happened.

no one gave up on the play that could have recovered it otherwise because they heard the whistle.

that was a horrible way to lose and should be corrected.
