Given the circumstances of last season and this season, he shouldn't have been fired. Either way, Tulane will forever have a mediocre football program.
Scelfo earned coming back this season after the way he held the team together last season. But even my husband, who never bashes coaches (no matter how bad it gets) said that it had to be done after this season and agrees with this decision. Tulane doesn't have a band wagon. They have some die hard supporters, and the football program was losing even some of those. It has been bad. It has been about more than wins and losses, also being about the attitude on the field this year.
The funny part of that story was that Georgia Tech convinced them that having independent status was a great way to boost the program and their finances. After they left the SEC GT jumped in.

On the other hand (from my previous post), I remember hearing something this weekend about Tulane punting on third down sometime earlier in the season because Scelfo was so disgusted with the way the offense was playing. A lot of people thought he should have been fired after that game.
You are correct. And Suwanee was the other original member of the SEC to leave. They eventually cut all their athletic programs for a while. I think they are Div II now. And for the record, I'm younger then 30 and know this.
