Since its the offseason, I thought I'd revive this thread, especially with this youtube find....the '71 Orange Bowl vs Nebraska, I believe in its entirety. Have only watched the first few minutes, but for a 43 year old game, the video quality is damn near perfect

It was the Dardar-Marshall-Elko defensive line that really shined in that game. They held Bama without a single first down in the first half on their own field. Bryant called it the worst ass-whipping they had since the 1960's and mentioned that maybe it was time to retire. He retired at the end of that season and died a month later.

What I'm taking from this post is LSU killed Bear Bryant.

No, that LSU game caused Bryant to consider retirement.

Yes, it did. And I loved watching Holtz suffer on the sidelines.

That 4th down was the loudest I have ever heard Tiger Stadium.

Where were you at in the stadium? It was difficult to judge on ESPN as I recall.

I was also at the earthquake game, and the Notre Dame game with the goal line stand. For the ND game, I was sitting on that goal line, about 10 rows up, so practically ground level. Long time ago, but I remember that goal line stand being louder than the earthquake as well.
