TIGERS IN CHARGE
Do you think LSU will have enough consistent pitching to win the College World Series? Why is Coleman not given national recognition? What he is doing in the SEC is unbelievable.

There certainly are some reasons of concern for the LSU pitching staff, particularly in the bullpen, but I think the staff will be just fine in the NCAA postseason.
Anthony Ranaudo and Louis Coleman have been outstanding in the weekend rotation this season, while sophomore Austin Ross rose to the occasion in a big way last weekend with a very solid performance against Arkansas.
Sure, the Tigers may not have wonderful middle relief, but the emergence of Chad Jones, who also happens to be an all-SEC safety on the gridiron, and closer Matty Ott should be enough for the Tigers to get the job done.
As for LSU senior pitcher Louis Coleman, we’ve been pretty high on him throughout the season. What he has done for his team is amazing. In the Georgia series, we saw him come in and close things out Friday and bounce back with a strong outing in Sunday’s series finale. That right there is gutsy.
Guys like Coleman are all over the place with this LSU team. It’s just another reason why the Tigers should be back in the College World Series in just over a month.

RANKING THE RAZORBACKS
How do you drop Arkansas four spots this week? They went 2-2 against 2 very good opponents. On the flip side, you jump Ole Miss 6 spots for sweeping Auburn?

It was a combination of things.
First, the Razorbacks haven’t played great baseball the past few weeks and it was time to dock them for less than stellar play. For instance, the Hogs have dropped three of their last four series against Vanderbilt, Georgia, Tennessee and LSU. That’s not exactly top-10 worthy if you ask me.
Second, there are other teams out there playing better than the Hogs. You bring up the Rebels. There aren’t many people out there that would agree that Arkansas is a better team and playing better than Ole Miss. Also, Georgia is ahead of Arkansas because of the head-to-head. Additionally, Florida State is playing outstanding baseball right now and most certainly deserves to be ahead of the Razorbacks.
Arkansas could climb back into the top 10 with a strong finish to the regular season. But for now, the Razorbacks are exactly where they should be in our rankings.

THE TIRED “BIASED” DEBATE

Why are you such a SEC homer? Six teams in the top 25? North Carolina and Rice are not much better. West Coast baseball dominates. Look at the past three world series winners.

Ah yes, the “it has happened three-straight years, so that’s all that matters” argument. Got to love it.
Every year in college baseball is much different. There are some years when I think the West Coast dominates and there are others when I think the Southeast or the Southwest dominates. This is one of those years where West Coast baseball simply isn’t strong outside of a few great teams.
The Pac-10 is incredibly weak this season. Arizona State is a great team, Oregon State is a good team and Washington State and UCLA are at best average teams.
The WAC is incredibly weak this season. Nevada, New Mexico State and San Jose State, all teams with horrible RPIs, lead the league. That defending champion you speak of, Fresno State, is dead last in the conference and has a 22-25 record.
The WCC has underachieved this season. San Diego has an excuse because of the number of injuries it has had this season. But Pepperdine has no excuse to be bad this season and LMU and San Francisco are good but not great. Gonzaga is the team from the WCC I really like going down the stretch.
The Big West is the class of the West Coast. The league has taken another step forward with UC Irvine and Cal State Fullerton in great shape to earn national seeds. There’s not a thing negative to say about the Big West besides the fact UC Santa Barbara has vastly underachieved this season.
If you’ve followed our coverage in the past, we call a spade a spade. By the look of things, the West Coast is down this season. The coaches feel the same way.
