Anyone know a decent cookbook of louisiana fare? I know, not the best place for recipes... mom used to have alot, but then a little fire destroyed most of the house, including the recipes... So... anyone know a good one?

I saw a section at Books-A-Million. I'm sure you probably know that but just in case.

that is one my mom had when i was little and i now have. it is a good one.

"talk about good" from the lafayette jr league one is excellent.

i have several different ones. i will look in the morning and see since i cant remember off the top of my head right now. but the above two i would recommend in a heart beat. both have follow-up cookbooks cause the first was so well received. i have I and II for both of them.

oh my. i just added the link to talk about good and noticed there are two others. i may have to order. that is how much i like the first two. same with river road.

I'm just glad this thread didn't make you hungry for cookbooks.

three others i thought of and i havent even looked at my collection yet.

cotton country from the monroe jr league is supposed to be good. i dont have it but i got it for my mother several years ago and she loves it.

also, there is a series of cookbooks called "the best of the best from..."

it is cookbooks are a collection of recipes from different jr league and church cookbooks from either a specific state or region. (some states i guess arent good enough and are lumped into a region.) some states are so good with cooking they have two cookbooks. of course, louisiana is one of them. i have the best of the best from louisiana I and the best of the best from mississippi I in my collection.

and last that i can think of it "jambalaya" which is the nola jr league cookbook.

they have a couple of others i need to leaf through next time i am at a bookstore in nola and possibly get.

I love "River Road Recipes;" in fact, I have versions I and II and a "lighter" version.

The biscuit recipe in the first one is to die for.

Without reading it I understand the magic in any biscuit is 7-Up. Never used it but I have heard of it on multiple occasions. Any one else or is this a Cali thing?
