Shafer did begin his coaching career as a graduate assistant to head coach Bill Mallory of Indiana -- father of our very own Doug Mallory.

He also coached with Doug Mallory's brother, Mike Mallory for eight seasons--at Rhode Island (1993-1995), Northern Illinois (1996-1999) and at Illinois (2004).

Better watch it, it is threads and rumors like this that will start the ball rolling on: Miles is manipulating the changes at Mich to cause RR's failure, so that he can go there in a yr or so. J/K folks

My guess is that when Myles looks back at this season, he will always remind himself that it sure could have been much worse --- he could have gone to Michigan.
