I've recently moved to Clemson for work (at least it's better than "no football land" North Carolina where I've been for a while -- maybe I'll even get to see some SEC games on TV).

Anyway, a friend who went to undergrad here (and was in the band, so he's definitely biased) told me that LSU got the name Death Valley and the Tiger Rag from Clemson (and that this fact was even reported in LSU's media guide). I did a little looking around and found that Tiger Stadium was built well before Clemson's (1920s vs. 1940s), but I couldn't find any real information on the Death Valley nickname. I haven't gotten around to looking up Tiger Rag yet. Does anyone know of websites that tell which came first?

    Thanks! Geaux :lsug: Tigers! :champs:

Tell your new friend they are full of s**t - I lived in Charleston for a few years so I do understand that Clemson has a rich tradition, Howard's Rock, the most exciting 30 seconds in sports, etc...

But LSU is the original Death Valley and the Tiger Rag is rooted in the LSU / Tulane Rivalry if I'm not mistaken.

Maybe its me but I dont mind Clemson and thought their 30-second thing was incredibly lame and over-rated last year

My daughter went to Clemson, saw several games there. I like the way you can walk on the field & up to the rock after the game. No Tiger stadium as far as volume, though. Last year, someone posted an in-depth comparison & how "death valley at both stadiums" came to be. Can anyone find it & repost it?

I will re-edit this post when I find more links that I like.
    Ask yourself this question.

Has anyone made comments about Clemsons death valley like they have about LSU?

Some of this isn't exactly what you're looking for but it is interesting for LSU
    fans.

I wish I could find the website from last year that was posted here about LSU and where our colors came from, it also talked about Death Valley and
is what I was really looking for.

    From the Clemson Website

Here's a link to some info about Tiger Stadium that doesn't address when it was first called Death Valley but offers some interesting tidbits on it.
