Someone please enlighten me...all comments are welcome. I went to college, and I must have been absent the day we went over this topic.

My guess would be a stiff drink set on fire for theatrics.

Given the overall quality of Ole Miss and its supporters, I think it is a latin phrase meaning "come part my buttcheeks, husky boy."

Actually it is kind of like the VT name "hokie" or the UVA name "wahoo." It comes from a lame but well worn out cheer that is only exceeded in its gayness by the eaTme "farmers fight" cheer.

It's the Mississippi equivalent of "I'm an excellent driver" from the movie Rain Man - though not quite as sophisticated.

A hot toddy is an alcoholic beverage meant to "put your lights out" and put you to sleep. If you're a stump-jumping Mississippi redneck, your life is one alcohol-filled delusional experience after the other.

It's like a battle cry ... Come get drunk ... and oh, there's a FB game too and other reasons to be here. Your sheep and goats can wait till you get home.

Funny thing -- some classmates and I did a report last season on tailgating. We interviewed fans at the last 3 games (with the video camera) and asked them about tailgating experiences...stuff like that. Well, we happened to talk to people at the Ole Miss game and not single fan could tell us what it meant. The collective response was "we just do it becuase we always have".

I wish the footage was digital -- then I could post about 3 hours worth of Old Miss fans trying to explain their traditions, yet none of them knowning anything about them.

I think it is a play on the phrase "hoity toity" which according to Webster's New World Dictionary of the American Language means:"1. having or showing great pride in oneself and contempt or scorn for others 2.[Archaic] lofty, noble" However, we all know it means: "Oh sh*t , LSU in goonna kick our @ss"

Hotty Toddy is Ole Miss' version of "War Eagle". At every game a different celebrity flits over to the 50 yard line to lead the Hotty Toddy chant. So far they've had Elton John, Boy George, Rosie O'Donnell and Willie Gault. Rumor has it they are trying to get Rock Hudson for the LSU game but are having trouble making contact. Any available Manning will be asked to fill in if needed.

So "hoity toity" means showing pride? Sounds like the kind of "pride" that they have parades for.
