He is questioning why LSU is #1 in the AP. http://www.sportsline.com/collegefootball/story/10381241 He is saying that the AP put LSU #1 b/c they beat Tulane by a big margin. His argument is why that should catapult LSU past USC when USC "lost 2 offensive linemen and still pummeled Washington". That's right he said "pummeled". It was a 3 point game numb nuts and Washington hung with them till the 4th. Hardly a pummelling that the Huskies took. I can't believe this guy. Here is a little history. USC has only played 4 games and one was against a ranked opponent #25 currently. LSU has played 5 games and 2 of those were against a ranked opponent #14 Vtech and #18 S. Carolina (coaches poll). Why shouldn't LSU jump USC? His arguments are stupid and he has no facts to back them up.
LSU shouldnt jump them based on the last games. the only reason LSU should be #1 is if more voters value the season's games as a whole compared to week to week. im curious to know how many voters that voted usc #1 last week switched to LSU this week. id think not too many. most of LSUs increase must have come from voters that liked WV, UF and OU.
Here is what I sent the @ssclown: Dennis, Dennis, I'm so disappointed. I enjoyed the article last week about giving credit to the coaches even though they have players recruited by the previous coach. I'm tired of hearing those caveats. Anyway, I'm disappointed this week with your article saying that LSU shouldn't have leap frogged USC. Your reasoning is poor at best. You claim USC "pummeled" Washington, therefore USC should be left at #1. If you call pummelling a 3 point victory then I can probably stop my argument here. Reasons LSU should've leaped frogged USC: USC has played 4 games with 1 ranked opponent Neb currently at #25 in the Coaches Poll. LSU has played 5 games and 2 against ranked opponents at #14 Vtech and #18 S. Carolina. That's all I have to say. Just do a little more reasoning when writing and fully investigate your argument and look at the whole season and not just one weekend. Regards, J. Patterson
LSU is rated #1 because they are playing better than USC right now and beating better teams. The only reason to vote USC #1 is because of pervious teams, not this team. Dodd puts LSU down for beating up an unranked team, yet praises USC for barely beating an unranked team. What am I missing here?
Plain and simple, it was a jump ball for Florida & OU's 1st place votes. The change in the #1 spot had far more to do with those teams losing than anything that LSU and USC did. EDIT: After doing some research, I've discovered that neither OU or Florida had 1st place votes in the previous AP poll. My conclusion above is simply not true. I have no idea why so many voters changed their minds this week.
thats what i thought until i looked at the polls. so. cal. lost 11 1st place votes and LSU gained 11. OU and UF didnt have 1st place votes last week. its gotta be that 11 so cal voters didnt like what they saw and only saw the lsu/tulane score
What has USC done to earn the #1 ranking? Their best argument is that they were #1 to start the season and haven't lost, but that requires a whole lot of deference to the preseason poll, which is based solely on speculation and is the least accurate ranking you will see all season. Voters who get locked into the pre-season rankings are doing a disservice to the entire system. Rank them based on how good you think they are right now, not how good you thought they were two months ago. Duh.
Lets see who is still standing on January 7th 2008 at about 11:30 PM. If we keep winning we'll be in that game, and then and only then will we have say-so in the final BCS poll. EDIT: And I agree, Dodd is an idiot. We won without our starting defensive tackle and his backup playing (Charles Alexander and Marlon Favorite ) as well as one of our starting offensive lineman ( Will Arnold) not to mention our best wide reciever ( Early Doucet) . Its gets old.
I like to look at it this way... We played #9 VaTech and #12 S. Carolina. They are now down to #15 and #11, mostly b/c of their loss to us. USC played #14 Nebraska, who's now hanging in at #25. I used the AP Rankings here, seeing as how that is the poll that now has us at #1, which is Dodd's complaint in the first place.
