I would like this thread so much better if it was "Manziel bashes Doyle"....(I'm talkin' physically)

I agree. Some of the media types (and I am not calling Doyle a media type; he is a complete moron trying to make a name for himself by writing and saying extreme things that go against the grain) think they have the right to say and do anything because they have a pen in their hand.

He's job at CBSSports.com is as an editorial writer. He's paid to say what he thinks. That's his job.

If you have a job writing for CBSSports.com you aren't trying to make a name for yourself.

He's not saying things that are "against the grain." He's saying things you don't agree with and it hits close to home. The national media as a whole are looking at this story with suspicions as are a lot of fan bases.

I didn't hear the interview. If Doyle called Manziel a douchbag that definitely falls outside of professional conduct. I wonder how much of an outcry we'd hear if he said "Manziel has character issues that likely come from being raised in a privileged household with little to no discipline."

While both cases are likely true, I suspect the later would have ignited more feelings.

You ever hear of Jemele Hill? She's a regular columnist and now on-air commentator for ESPN. Her entire career there was made by writing race-baiting and generally inflammatory pieces designed solely to troll readers and stir up shit. Including one where she directly stated "Les Miles is a liar" regarding the Michigan rumors in 2007. And she's been rewarded rather handsomely for not writing thoughtful, insightful opinions, so I'd say that falls under "making a name for yourself." This is the "worldwide leader in sports", mind you, so don't tell me CBS wouldn't dare stoop to the same level.

And if no one pays attention to what he says, he doesn't have a job. The guy likes to bash people and get fan bases riled up, but it's not unlike most writers out there. It's a new day and age where people behind a computer screen can type whatever they want and call it journalism.

Yes, I'm familiar with her. I've seen her numerous times on "Sports Reporters" and I have no problem saying I don't agree with what she's said on a variety of subjects.

"Her entire career there was made by writing race-baiting and generally inflammatory pieces designed solely to troll readers and stir up shit." I have a hard time believing that. But, that doesn't mean it isn't true...this may have been her schtick. I'm more inclined to believe she worked to gain the platform she works on and then chose to voice more opinion than sports reporting. But again, we're back to that point. (Jason Whitlock is a good example of this...in both cases.)

That's her job. She not "making a name for herself" now. She's done that.

As to Miles to Michigan? It's evident she believed her source. As did Herbie. We might live our lives without knowing the entire story. It's my belief Miles to Michigan came from Desmond. And, I believe he believed what he was being told.

@TerryP The fact that he is on the editorial staff for CBS Sports puts an even greater responsibility on him to conduct himself in a professional manner. He's entitled to his opinion, and is paid to express it. No problem. But a supposedly "professional" journalist calling a college athlete a "douchebag"? Problem. Have a little class, man. Make your point like a pro and leave the juvenile name-calling to the wannabe bloggers.

Funny, I don't recall Herbie writing a piece with this as the lead sentence:

"Les Miles is a liar. And, a mediocre football coach."

That is a verbatim quote. If that isn't designed to be inflammatory, not to mention defamatory, I don't know what is.

She wrote her inflammatory column after Miles' infamous "have a great day" speech before the '07 SECCG. She said he was lying about staying at LSU and would be bolting to Michigan shortly...
