How about Drake Nevis? Game changer. Homeboy is a beast. He's quite possibly the most underrated player on the team and maybe in the SEC.

He'll be a household name by the end of the season.

Beast...and Sheppard...and Baker. Amazing game by Baker considering his injury...and he lost 10 lbs due to jaw being wired shut. He'll only get better, and he was everywhere tonight. I think the DL is underrated as a unit.

Nevis is definitely making a push for 1st Team All-SEC, possibly All-American if he can keep it up and the defense finishes strong.

Anybody think a lighter but faster DL this year helps?

Drake Nevis has improved himself every year at LSU and he is a hoss. Clearly he is the leader of the d-line. He and K. Sheppard must be the leaders on the D. He's improving his draft position, he did good coming back to LSU for his sr. season.

It works if you play to their strengths, which is an aggressive, penetrating style of defense. If you try to play gap control and containment with a smaller line, then you can get into trouble. I'm interested to see how this line holds up against physical running teams.

And deeper...very talented group, with fresh legs all night long. Definitely seems to be the way to use THIS group.

Me too. I think there's enough versatility there...but against passing teams and finesse teams, they'll excel. That means everyone but Bama really.

Looks like the days of LSU having dominant defensive linemen is back.
