I just hope both parties realize the people of this country are more moderate than the elected officials "supposedly" representing them. I tend to believe the average-American is much further to the right than Obama, Pelosi, and Reid so I hope the eventual selectee doesn't represent the far-left ideology. I also hope the next member interprets the law and NOT attempt to write it. Call me an alarmist but I just feel the country is slipping away. I hope we don't fill the seat with another person who believes we should become Europe.

I love when conservatives claim the don't want "activist" judges, what they really want activist judges who are on their side. They had no problem with the "activist" ruling on campaign finace laws, which overturned about 50 years of precedent. But on topic, this won't change the court's makeup, so I don't see where it's worth a lot of energy expenditure by republicans.
