Most computers have spell check built-in, the mac certainly does. The main problem with all the bad spelling, bad grammar, no caps, no punctuation posts is the increasing number of people thumb-typing on cellphones.
Translated: Most people that type on a phone feel it's not worth the effort to spell, punctuate, and communicate correctly. Incidentally, this makes them look uneducated AND lazy.
It'll be a cold day in you-know-where before I let my students spell phonetically. The business world doesn't do it, and the business world wouldn't stand for it. New is definitely not better in this case!
IMHO, the big problem is the erosion of expectations. When what was unacceptable becomes acceptable, we have a problem.
