I know many of you have read Dandy Don's page over the years and have a profound respect for him. I just read an update on his page by his son and Don passed this morning at 3:57. He will surely be missed. What a great ambassador for LSU Sports. Godspeed Don, may angels carry you home.

Dandy Don passed away this morning after his fight with cancer according to his son at www.DandyDon.com Part of the notice reads below

"To all of you faithful readers and loyal friends who have kept my dear father, “Dandy” Don Long, in your thoughts and prayers, I would like to thank you and let you know of his passing today at 3:57 a.m. The greatest man I’ve ever known, and perhaps the most dedicated Tiger Fan there has ever been, suffers no more and will be missed more than words could ever describe. Funeral arrangements have not yet been made, but I will keep you all posted."

    It is a sad day.

I have been reading Dandy Don's page for the past 12-13 years and today I feel like I have lost one of my dearest freinds. Mr. Long always made his faith and family the greatest priorities and I know they will miss him greatly. My prayers are with his family as they get thru this difficult time. Geaux Tigers and Rest In Peace Dandy Don!

I'll never forget his thanksgiving post about his life in Winn Parish growing up. I've read that post several times and teared up every time I got to the part where he says that he prays for his wife every morning when he gets up by her side of the bed.

He answered my congratulatory e-mail once when he announced that his grandson became a Catholic priest. he must have been a very kind man.
