I've received a couple of comp copies already, and I agree that it looks good.

They've a tough row to hoe, IMO. One focus is on the minor sports, which I think is a good idea since news and info on, say, the tennis teams is hard to come by and would be of interest to fans who like to follow all LSU sports but don't know where to look for such info or don't need to check in every day.

On the other hand, the coverage so far on the major sports isn't that special. What I mean is I've noticed things reported on the major sports that I've seen referenced here weeks ago.

Therefore, this may strike a chord with the more casual fan who'd like to get occasional issues dedicated to LSU sports, complete with sharp-looking cover photos, but for us die hards here...probably not much to get fired up over, IMO.

I know P&G let many people down, but I received it during the 2003 football season and the weekly analysis of upcoming games and overviews of the previous week's games was pretty solid. Geaux magazine has alot to do to bring that level of detail and value to its subscribers come football time.

Perhaps it was in reference to an article about Randall going to the NFL? I've read others where that was the topic.... :thumb:

....LOL....pretty obvious it was a typo on their part....

Still looks like a sharp publication to me though. ....it's a LOT nicer to look at than Tiger Rag..... My fiance' threw one of my Tiger Rag issues away by accident because she just thought it was one of those "junk" papers you get in the mail every now and then.

SI looks sharp but is merely good for lining the bottom of a bird cage. It used to look sharp and have substance.

now if i could just find a way to cover the birdcage bottom with sportscenter.

    ....and MTV for that matter....

Yeah, SI USED to be THE sports publication. I still subscribe to it though, but recently, my neighbor started subscribing to The Sporting News. He brought it over one day to show me an article.... I thought it was pretty good (I remember when TSN was VERY crappy...).

Don't know if any of you noticed, but on the cover of their recent magazine they had a big picture of Russell, but the caption said "Randall gets a second chance at a first impression" (or something similar)

Possibly Jim Hawthorn is moonlighting as editor at Geaux Magazine.

    MTV still exists? lol

the sporting news is very good imo. Its about the only rag I buy occasionally. I used to subscribe to it but didn't renew.

You also have to realize that ALL of the major sports are now over. How much "in depth" coverage can you give on Spring practices--which are only open to the media during the first 45 minutes of each practice--which usually contains stretching and individual position drills?? Not much to report on basketball anymore either.

I think we're GEAUX is concerned, they're covering the "smaller" sports with great lengths where other LSU publications will beat the "spring training" horse to death and repeat what they've already reported, or give a snoozing fluff piece on something football related simply for the sake of covering football...

I sent an email to them about it and with their permission I am posting the response:

We are currently working with a new designer and I am approving pages before they are sent to the printer in order to prevent such errors in the future. I hope that this error will not prevent you from reading our magazine.
