P.S. That's projected talent... which just demonstrates Carrol's lack of ability to develop it. I would think that's one of the main ingredients a top 5 coach should have, right?

granted there are many schools out west, but is it really hard to recruit at USC???

cali has tons of in state talent every year. pete could hand out brochures and players would come.

is there really another game in town?? UCLA??? cal??? stanford???

alot of USC fans credit his asst coaches mainly chow and get this, yaw yaw, for much of their success recruiting. sory scratch that now chow for recruiting chow for success on the field. those guys are gone now. norton jr is still very good though.

as much as i'd like to give credit to saban and miles, La. per capita is a very fertile recruiting ground but saban and miles put up "the fence". with no comp in state and now with miles invading texas and fla, things should stay on the same level we've been accustomed to.

but back to carroll i think from a players' standpoint he's probably one of the top five in the country of coaches to play for. miles would probably also be on that list.

I thought Curley's classes were pretty well regarded. This is from memory, but I want to say the "gurus" had all of his classes in the top 10. Even that cant save a crappy coach, though.

well that's where the credit for saban and miles come in, with the whole "fence" thing.

not trying to discredit either but you can't say La., being talent rich with no recruiting in state rivals, is a bad place to recruit.

this state was sending guys to miami, fla st, colorado, nebraska, ND, texas, texas a&m, tennessee, and so on and on. you don't see that now.

i'd like to think a big part of that is LSU itself, its facilities, it's atmosphere, it's student and fan base. it's record for sending guys to the NFL.

all that is a draw no matter who's under the headset now. but i'm aware it wasn't when hallman was here.
