First, of course we should look to ways to cut spending, but not at the expense of the lives of American soldiers as you suggest.

Where did I suggest that? Of course you can't cut spending and leave soldiers unfunded. BUt you can do a phased drawout, since all we're doing is serving as a police force now. Or you can raise taxes to pay for it. Let's see how important we think Iraq is to the war on terror if we have to actually pay for it.

We all make some sort of sacrifice. It may be in the way of taxes or some other means.

No we haven't. Taxes were cut (albeit a small amount for us common folk.)

Everytime an American loses his or her life, we all suffer a lose.

I agree. But we can probably all agree that the soldiers and their families are losing a lot more. The war is much more real to them than to the majority of the american population.

We are not having to ration because it is not a total war that calls for a nation's entire resouces being applied to the war effort

I was just using that as an example. Would the supporters of the war be as quick to support it if W had said " This war will cost us 10 billion dollars a month, so we will raise individual and corporate taxes to pay for it? My point, it was easy for most people to support this war in the begining because it required damn little from the majority.
