The SEC coaches voted in favor of having an early signing period for football. It will now be presented to the NCAA. Does anyone know any of the details of what they are proposing?
ESPN - SEC coaches hoping for early signing day in late November - College Football My biggest problem is this: It hurts the kids who can't afford to travel just so they can have the freedom to choose. Kids with little financial means will probably be forced to make the quick decision without having all the info they need. Add this to the loophole practice of webcam visits and it looks like you have a bunch of coaches who don't want to work as hard as they are right now IMO. Honestly, they are complaining that once they get a verbal they don't want to babysit a player while he takes other visits and kids are still getting hammered by other schools despite the verbal. So what are they saying? It's only OTHER schools who knock on the door after it's closed? Come on. They ALL do it.
Seems like this rule is good for schools with strong in-state recruiting, allowing them to lock up the state by bringing the guys in for unofficials. Although that is good for LSU, I still don't see the point for having that part in there.
That is true but they also want it so they can manage numbers better. They will be able to recruit guys they wouldnt be able to normally recruit as hard after the season with the new rule. Plus they like it because it decreases silent commits and things of that nature. It is not like the recruits have to sign in the early period.
I have my doubts that will happen. When recruits are forced into a situation that doesn't suit them, they will still "play the game" as they do now. Of course CUM doesn't like it because he may be the worst at hounding a kid after they've committed. As far as have to sign, that will be the case for some. A year ago SEC coaches voted 9-3 AGAINST an early signing period and only changed their minds after this specific language was added: So let's say there's a kid with no money, and he gets one visit but can't afford anymore and he then HAS to sign? I see all kinds of unintended consequences as a result.
But that is no different than what we already have. I am assuming that means he would have to sign in February as opposed to the early period.
I think TB3 is correct. I read it as saying if you want to take official visits to other schools, than you cannot sign early and must sign(with any school) in Feb. I don't think it limits kids as much as you might think. And ultimately this process has gotten out of hand, on all sides. If we can simplify it for some kids that don't like the process(a lot say this actually), then that is probably a good thing.
