A few years ago, on vacation, wife rode along as i played a round. A raccoon went into our golf cart, stole the wife's snicker bar while we were on the green. When we came back it was standing a few feet in the tree line, standing like a man, or dwarf, eating the snicker bar while staring at us. I still remember that twinkle in his eye and smirk on his face.

So today, on a par 5 and I'm laying 2 about to hopefully hit 3 onto the green.

Instead i catch a greenside bunker that has a steep like almost straight up face on the green side. My ball looks like it initially plugged into the side of that steep face but then it rocked back.

It was literally suspended in the air and Im not sure how. I looked at it and said I'm going to hit this ball backwards.

So I opened up the face, set my feet in what was the most awkward stance and took a hack.

Straight up in the air and it landed about 3 feet behind me still in the bunker.

On in 5 with a one putt bogey

Easy for him. He's left handed.

The problem was there was nothing under the ball and no way to follow through with the club. It slammed right into the face of the bunker.

How do you "practice" that @TerryP

As I recall, I can only remember one course where they had that type of a bunker in the practice areas. I'm not sure if they still do.

When that course opened it had one of the better practice areas. As example, you could stand on the box on the driving range (hitting north) and work on your normal warm-up routines. What was neat is you could stand in the other direction (facing south) and work on your short game chipping up on the practice green. I want to say it was at least 4000 sq ft of putting area surrounding by hazards.
