Can anyone please explain to me what Freemasonry is and what Freemasons are? What's the deal with the sign of the square and compass with the "G" in the middle? Do you know anyone who is a Freemason? Are you a Freemason? If you are one, are you even allowed to talk about it?

WTF is this stuff all about? I've always wondered, but I still have never gotten a clear answer. Please advise.....

I know a few freemasons, mostly law enforcement. They won't talk about it. You have to be invited to a meeting. I think it's religious but I could be wrong.

Its like the skull and bones society, but in a different light. Almost like a fraternal order, with religion and alot of secrecy mixed in. You go through alot of rituals and education to reach a certain degree of masonry.

I've watched a few documentarys lately on the History Channel. Very interesting stuff. Supposedly has its roots with the designers and builders of the King Solomens Temple.

some scholars have even linked the freemasons with the knights templar, and the illuminati. no proof of it though, the symbol in the original post was derived from tools used by masons.

My grandfather was a Mason. I remember him going to numerous meetings, always behind closed doors, and I have his Mason "handbook" in a bookshelf at my house. Maybe I should actually read it? If I find out any "secrets" of the order, I'll let you know.

Yes, it was based in religion. My grandmother was a member of the female auxiliary, the Eastern Star. I have her book, too. I found both of them in a box in my uncle's attic in Baton Rouge a couple of years ago.
