i would love to see a playoff system, but could you imagine the situation where say, LSU and UF would meet up 3 time in the same season! Regular season, SECCG, then again in the BCSCG?
Tonight's game would still matter for seedings and home field, assuming that's how it is set up. But even if seedings and home field weren't an issue it sure as hell would matter to the #9 team in the BCS that is waiting for USF to fall out of the top 8. It may not be as important to us, but that's cool with me. You mean to tell me LSU would rest players in the SECCG if we were sitting at #2 in the nation and needed to win to get into a playoff. I can't even see an undefeated team doing that. I understand this. But the downfall is that is usually puts a team in the championship game that doesn't belong. Having a playoff will only make the title of college football national champion that much more relevant.
Perhaps the rule requiring a team to be a conference champ would kick in. Which would make the SECCG that much more entertaining.
But then there again, you wouldn't have your best teams in the playoffs. I can see the SEC having 3 teams in a 8 team playoff.
I agree, look at us last year- didn't make the game, ended up #4 in the Nation- everyone knew we were "The best in the West".
