So many signs of excellent coaching and in every facet of the game. To share a couple: (Add any you saw) -Florida fakes a punt, we're ready and stop it. -We intercept a pass, our defense turns around and start head hunting and laying blocks. -We line up to punt, our punter sees the defense with a void and takes it all the way in for a score- again, with defenders turned offensive. -When we do punt, we consistently pin them inside the 10. And for all the worries about our offense, William Larry and his Gators are scared of it. So scared that on their 3rd possession and on their own 28 yard line they go for it on a 4th & 1 !!! Very telling that our offense does indeed have a lot of respect. And on our side of it our second play goes 46 yards for a TD. Throwing in that "Jump pass" shows Miles/staff are at a very comfortable level with JJ's level of comfort. That is not just completing a pass for a TD, it's doing so with a smirk on your face.
Good Thread I'll add; They have eliminated the offensive confusion that has been a problem the last 3 years. The WTF moments have not been an issue QB comfort level is way above last year - the position is stable. Turnovers are not a problem - 1 int at midpoint of the season; that's different. The team is focused in every facet of the game All of this in spite of the distractions the month before the season started Coach of the year is really a staff award - and our coaching staff has to be the leading contender.
Look. If your QB, reguardless of WHOM he is, can't complete a "flick" pass for a TD from the 1, then you shouldn't be in uniform. That play was more about LSU and Miles showing up Florida and the nation that that same silly play that glorified Tebow can be reproduced. Miles and staff OBVIOUSLY have confidence in JJ...he was our starter the past 2 seasons, after this past spring and again in fall camp before "the issue" happened and allowed Lee to take a crack at the starting job and took advantage of his chance. I think Lee gives us more of a treat passing the ball (8 TD's to 1 INT in under half a season already)--but that's off topic of sorts for now. I'm not a big fan of rotating QB's (like they did last year), but to be frank, if we're definately gonna use it, the way Miles handled it this past week is the way it should be: We used both, but never breaking either one's rhythm too much. I wouldn't have been upset had JJ actually played from half-way through the 3rd Q until the game ended with the way the game was going. JJ is athletic. No doubt about it. His long run off a QB DRAW vs Tenn last year was amazing! ...but let's NOT grasp at straws here praising scores when JJ has 2 TD's (1 passing and 1 rushing) and BOTH from the 1 foot line. :rolleye33: Did they result in points for the TEAM? Yes. I'm happy that he's able to contribute to the team in the best way the coaching staff feels that he can. But I'm not going to go all ape-sh*t and eye-popping impressed with those kind of scores.
* The level of intensity and focus they bring into EVERY game. This intensity has been extremely pleasent to watch, instead of the "playing to the level of your competition" attitude.
I agree! This team seems to be truly growing in their mental awareness compared to recent seasons. So many little things are indicating that these guys know what they are doing. I wonder if the tragedy and the discipline Mikes inflicted right before the season helped clear the focus of this team on how they need to be mentally and physically aggressive. ANother one: I have been impressed with how many sacks we have, and yet our blitzing defense is very quick to identify the screen pass. I thought Sam Montgomery was going to dig a 2 foot crater in the ground when he threw on the brakes and started back pedaling into coverage.
Here is one; the fast no huddle drills the defense ran all off season getting ready for the Ducks. That was a good coaching idea that has carried forward to the other games. For a guy known for dumb luck, coach Miles can sometimes be smart, real smart.
Yup, and some other coaches started doing the same thing after we played Oregon. Or so I heard some say in interviews.
