I really enjoy Mett. I remain excited about how he has progressed and I believe we are going to see more of an NFL caliber player in an LSU uniform this season. Today is great ... tomorrow is looking pretty good too. The more I read about this guy the more excited I get about our future offense. Been asleep at the wheel I guess so I failed to even pay attention to the fact that Miles seems to have a want to continue to have a mobile QB in that offense (RP, JJ, AJ). Everything I've heard about AJ is extremely encouraging. I've never been a huge fan if the dual-threat QB because it usually means a QB that has great feet and is OK with throwing the football. Everything indicates that he is a smart QB that is a passer first but has the wheels when necessary. That is the ideal QB and that is what the word is about AJ.
I like dual-threat quarterbacks for special situations and change-ups. I worry about dual-threat quarterbacks when he's your main guy because he's going to get hit on almost every play that's not a handoff. Injury risk is much higher. It's why Rettig is also important for the future.
Why can't we call him AJ? Its not like there is another qb named AJ or anything. I mean there's that gump tard McSomething or another but he doesn't count.
Just my opinion, but I prefer calling him "Jennings" rather than "AJ". AJ sounds like it could be anyone. Coming in from the Houston area, I always feel like I'm starting to get closer to Tiger Country when I hit Jennings. Everyone loves labels and "dual threat" can have hundreds of different shades of grey. I don't think it's fair to dissect Jennings' game based on a label. Drew Brees ran for over 500 yds in his Sr. year at Purdue. Was he a dual threat QB?
7 I don't really understand your position. I didn't follow Brees in college but if he was a real threat on the ground and could beat you with his feet then yes, I would call him a dual-threat. Dual-threat isn't a pejorative. In fact I think it's a positive if the QB can actually read defenses and make accurate passes. Unfortunately for the label, most QB's labeled as DT actually aren't dual-threat; They can usually threaten you with their running but can't effectively read defenses or make the necessary throws which is why the label has gotten a bad rap. A true DT QB is the most dangerous weapon a team can have. Hell Auburn won a national championship on their DTQB alone.
