    Phillies top 4

    #1 Holliday
    #2 Lee
    #3 Hamels
    #4 Oswalt

Closest I can remember were the Braves

    #1 Maddux
    #2 Glavine
    #3 Avery
    #4 Hampton

This team may give the 1906 Chicago Cubs and 2001 Seattle Mariners record 116 wins a run. The National League should just stay home next year :hihi:

Not sure if it is the greatest pitching staff ever, it is close though, but it is the best that is in MLB right now. The comparison of the Braves would be the closest I could think of as well. Also a pitching tandum built through free agency and bringing talent up. As for the entire National League just mailing in the season and dubbing the Phillies the Champs, that might be a bit much, but the Mets are all but mathematically out of it and the season ain't even begun.

Wasn't Smoltz in that Braves line up as well?

    LaSalleAve when in doubt, mumble

Yeah Smoltz was before Hampton, and honestly the combo of Glavine, Avery, Maddux, and Smoltz in my opinion is the greatest rotation in the history of baseball.

    Fixed it.

By sheer numbers, the Braves staff was the best, but they only won one World Series together. For some reason, Maddux always struggled in the playoffs.

If the Phillies win this year (and they should with that staff and lineup), then I wold have to give the nod to them.

As soon as they win 15 division titles in a row I'm going to give them the edge.

    SyrTiger ooo yea thats hot

I'd still like to see them win first. Lots of players seem to slack off after getting big contracts. Some pitchers that went downhill after big contracts recently were Johan Santana, Barry Zito, Carlos Pavano. I'm not saying they slacked off, sometimes injuries played a part too. However, it's certainly possible that injuries could happen and/or ineffectiveness.

Unfortunately, most athletes are judged for championships, not division titles. While impressive, they most certainly underachieved when it mattered most.

No kidding. One ring in how many attempts? (3)

I also had difficulty comprehending the love for Cox. Sure, he got them to the playoffs a hell of a lot, but one ring???
