why people think this team isnt "elite"...was our 2007 team elite?? This team has the possiblity of going 11-2 with loses to the #1 and #2 teams in the country...we won a NCG going 12-2 with loses to unranked Kentucky and Arkansas. There is an argument that can be made that this team is just as good as the 2007 team...I dont think so...just saying.
I agree with you, i think this team is easily the 4th best team in the nation maybe even better than that.
My theory is that an elite team is one who is consistently in the national title hunt every year and one who's name basically can recruit itself. I think we've been elite for a while.
Our 05 and 06 teams were Elite. 07 elite everywhere but the QB, and he was still pretty damn good. This year and last we have elite skill guys, horrible lines. That is the difference.
Yep, ten years ago, I would've never dreamed of the decade of LSU football we'd experience. We're elite.
I think we're an elite program, but given the youth in key skill positions (in particular at QB) and less-than-stellar O and D line play, I don't think the team this year is elite. That said, I really don't see any team this year fully qualifying as elite. Every team left undefeated so far has obvious weaknesses, much more so than the top two/three teams of past years. Even with LSU's own weaknesses, I think we're a top five team...and that's not something I thought a few weeks ago. Maybe it's just a 'down' year in college football. No one has impressed this year, or at least, those that do impress one week (like Oregon) fall badly the next...speaking of...GEAUX AUBURN!
I'm not sure there are any truly elite teams this year... everybody has a few warts. That being said, I do feel that LSU is among the best teams this season. I beleive we can play with and beat any team in the country.
Probably the lack of a signature win and the subpar offense. The 07 team demolished Va Tech, beat a few other bowl teams and put up a lot of points.
