I agree. The two situations are very similar. I do believe Russell has a better arm than Cox, but I like the fact that Cox has been playing in a pro-set system since his sophomore year in HS. He's very comfortable in the pocket set or the shotgun - reminds me of Aikman without the cannon-arm.

I'm expecting big things out of Jamarcus Russell this season and have enjoyed watching him develop. He has an opportunity this season to overtake Leak for the title of Most Athletic QB, but he'll need to step up from a leadership perspective before he's annointed such. Russell got a bad rap among many LSU fans, but for those of us "outsiders" looking at it purely objectively, Russell is LSU's best blend of talent & experience - and the kid has H-U-G-E potential if he can rally those around him.

Should be a fun season to watch JR develop, especially with the speed at wideout..... it has the potential to be a lethal combination.

Al Borges, speaking about QB's Field and Cox:

Thanks for the compliments...Cox doesn't have the experience at all in comparison...Considering JaMarcus was running a shotgun spread offense all four years in high school as the starter...and did I mention he started for the Varsity at quarterback in 8th grade, too?

He's got loads of experience in the pocket, reading, reacting, and playing...He was depended upon to make plays at that level, and his biggest adjustment was learning to create within an offense, rather than be the offense itself.

I think he has learned, and I think he is ready to explode. Cox-if I'm not mistaken-was brought in and sold on Auburn because of Petrino, who at the time was the head coach and is known around college football as a developer of left handed quarterbacks...I find it hard to believe they brought in Borges as a 2nd straight homage to a player who had missed his first year with medical issues after being recruited by an OC who was set up to deal with him...

    Hmmm...

You're correct on most of it, but Cox was headed to Au with or without petrino. The decision to bring in Borges had absolutely zero to do with Brandon Cox .... at the time, it wasn't even known if he would ever play football again. This kid has really seen his share of adversity, on a personal level.

I know he was Mark Brunells offensive coordinator with the Jaguars prior to coming to Auburn. Thats the only lefty he coached i'm aware of.

But that had nothign to do with Brandon Cox coming to AU, so its really of no relevence.
